The new issue of Lucky features a round-up of Chicago shops that offer DIY classes in the domestic arts - all things that contribute to a cozier, more fulfilling home life. With the long winter ahead, it's a good time to brush up on skills (or learn some new ones).

From knitting at Nina (pictured left) to flower arranging at Flora, here are the details to get involved...

Knitting: at Nina. Private ($25/hour) and Group ($50/2 2-hour sessions) Lessons, both project and technique based. 1655 W. Division, 773.486.8996

Arts and Crafts: at Soutache. Classes ($50/2 hours including materials) on craft techniques using the ribbons, buttons, buckles and other supplies sold at the shop. 2125 N. Damen, 773.292.9110.

Textile Printing: at Wolfbait and B-girls. Classes ($30/2 hours) on fabric printing with stamps, stencils and screens. 3131 W. Logan Blvd., 312.698.8685.

Cooking: at The Chopping Block. Workshops (prices range) on varying topics from Knife Skills ($40/2.5 hours) to Chicken 101 ($75/2.5 hours). Two locations, Merchandise Mart 312.644.6360 and 4747 N. Lincoln Ave. 773.472.6700.

Flower Arranging: at Flora. Floral demonstrations ($75 - 100/session including materials) where you learn to design at least three bouquets using seasonal blooms to take home. 2835 N. Southport, 773.929.2835.
