Blogging NPR: Creative Play and Controlled Kids

With the lack of good old-fashioned imaginative play these days, researchers are finding that children lose the cognitive skills that help them in the area of self-control. One pre-school curriculum called "The Tools of the Mind," spends every moment of the day teaching those lost skills.

While all of the leagues and lessons kids are in today are not a bad thing in and of themselves, they also don't require children to learn self-regulating because they are regulated by adults.

Some researchers even suggest that the missed skill of self-regulation is also leading to the higher rates of ADHD diagnosis.
