How timely. Just as we're winding down Escapes month at AT, local magazine Sunset has opened its 2007 Lake Tahoe Idea Home. Although the San Francisco Idea House is still on hold we hear that the Mission District abode is scheduled for a late September launch the Tahoe location opened its doors last Friday. The house, which overlooks the 18th hole of a golf course, can be toured through October 28.
The Idea Houses are basically showcases for trends and products. They often provide great design and garden inspiration. Here's a brief description, from the Sunset website, of the Tahoe home:
"The house was designed to blend with its Sierra setting while celebrating the very best of indoor-outdoor mountain living.
"Many of the timbers and beams are reclaimed (Certified Forest Products). Solar panels (SunPower Corporation) are fixed to the standing seam metal roof (Metal Roofing Alliance)."
The front porch is comprised of exposed timbers and board-formed concrete. The steel door handle was fashioned out of old snow poles.
The master suite has "relaxation" written all over it.
The guest bathroom features a glass and stone tub/shower surround, and a hammered sink with a rustic vibe.
The folding doors span an entire wall, allowing the dining area to flow right out to the terrace.
The Lake Tahoe Idea Home is open through October 28 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (9am-5pm). General admission is $15; seniors, $10 on Fridays; children 6-12, $5; and children under the age of 5, free. You can view additional photos and get more information right here.
