Book 'Em! Eco-Friendly Bookshelves

A recent post on Inhabitat inspired this week's roundup—one of the finalists in their Spring Greening Contest turned an old collection of 80 National Geographics into a hollowed-out bookshelf! Talk about creative reuse (and certainly a way to incorporate the magazine's iconic yellow spins into home decor). Take a look at our top picks for other eco-friendly bookshelves after the jump.

(Shown above the jump, from left to right)

1. Designer Ora Ito's striking ECCO bookshelf for Artelano Paris (price upon request) has a corrugated body made of alveolar wood culled from FSC-certified forests. The lacquer finish is available in white or black.
2. Brave Space Design's Bamboo Stagger shelving unit ($2,975) is made of amber and blond 100 percent rapidly renewable bamboo and a hand-applied, non-toxic herbal oil finish.
3. Talk about an existential crisis! The Book Shelf ($49) by Etsy artisan spoonfulofchocolate is composed of horizontally aligned worn volumes of Reader's Digest. Color varies.
4. The modern Tribeca Bookshelf ($92.50) from eco-friendly manufacturer Way Basics is just that—a basic piece made of recycled paperboard.
5. Made of FSC-certified wood with an eco-friendly varnish, the Knu Bookcase 1 ($1,349) is available in six finishes.
6. The Stagger Server ($2,540), also from Brave Space Design, is not only made from bamboo with an organic herbal oil finish, but it pulls double duty: bookshelf and wine rack in one.
