Way up here in Canada we are often at the mercy of American influences and resources, and it's pretty rare for there to be a comprehensive consumer resource developed specifically for Canada. So it was incredibly refreshing when Ecoholic was published a few years ago. It's a complete and current resource of environmentally friendly options for consumer goods and services. Fortunately author Adria Vasil has published an American edition as well.
We can't speak to the American edition, but can say that in addition to green business listings the book is jammed full of wonderful tips, ideas, and warnings about all of the items we use and consume in our daily lives.
Covering everything from personal care to home improvement to greening your finances, the book is well-organized and written in an easy-to-read conversational tone. It's a great read from cover to cover, but also easy to use as a reference for specific topics as needed. There are green colored pullouts throughout Ecoholic with bite-sized facts. The book also touches on other consumer ethical issues such human rights.
Basically Ecoholic is like having a really informed friend, a green maven, who has done all of the background research for you. There is something for everyone who is trying to embrace a greener lifestyle in Ecoholic.
Ecoholic is printed on 100% post-consumer waste paper and you can even find a few used copies through Amazon.com.
