Shopping for comforters as a hot sleeper can be a gamble. What’s great in the winter could be too much for summer, and that means more money to spend on better-fitting bedding for the warmer months. As a result, I typically err on the side of lightweight comforters and quilts, but I have to admit, I love the feeling of snuggling into a thick and cozy blanket. I thought that there had to be one product that was the best of both worlds. I wasn’t looking for a comforter that was so light that it’d be too cool on colder nights, but I was afraid of leaning too far onto the warmer bedding side that it would totally defeat the purpose of my search. Thank goodness that all-year-round bedding options exist! I had the chance to try out the All-Season Down Alternative Comforter from Brooklinen, which made AT’s Best List for Comforters), and found out that it was exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

I’d been using the Brooklinen All-Season Down Alternative Comforter on and off for a few weeks before I knew it was my go-to bedding piece for the summer — and quite possibly the rest of the year. I’d come home late and tired from my niece’s 5th birthday party, walked into my room, and was hit with the dreaded realization that my bed was still nearly-bare from doing laundry. I had two choices: I could either grab a big blanket and sleep on top of my mattress pad (it’s quilted and soft) or I could make the bed even though I was drained from the day. I chose the latter.

Once I got the sheets secured — with surprisingly no whining about turning the fitted sheet in the wrong direction twice before getting it right — all I had left was my comforter before I could finally drift off to Dreamland. I usually put a duvet cover on my white comforters, but I was too exhausted to go through the trouble ,so I grabbed my Brooklinen comforter and draped it over the bed before finally crashing. I slept like a baby, and it wasn’t just because of how tired I was, but how comfy I felt all night. Considering that I didn’t want to make my bed, I slept better that night than any other day that week! The comforter wasn’t too thick or heavy, and though we’re in the early days of Louisiana summer, I stayed cool.

Brooklinen’s Down Alternative Comforter has a cotton sateen shell, a fabric I’m already a superfan of as a hot sleeper. The comforter is plush without being too thick or heavy, so it feels like sleeping under a cloud of comfort. Right now, I don’t have the comforter in a duvet cover, but it doesn’t have loops in every corner to make it possible. When I did have it inside of a cover back in early spring, it still didn’t get too hot, and that’s due to the comforter’s supreme breathability. It’s very airy, and the fill stays evenly distributed because it has baffle box paneling to break it down into neat squares. I’ve used this comforter in both cold and warm weather, and I can say with full confidence that it holds up between seasons, which means I don’t have to worry about changing up my bedding as much based on the temperature outside.

Ever since that day I didn’t feel like making my bed, this has become the comforter I reach for whenever possible. I love that it stays cool to the touch and it gives me the satisfying feeling of plush and snuggly bedding without the bulkiness that can sometimes come with it. This is one of the first all-season comforters I’ve ever used, but I can’t imagine any other type of bedding could be more right for me. If you want to try it for yourself, now is the perfect time: Brooklinen is offering 20 percent off for Sleep Week!
