9 Target Living Room Buys That Look Expensive (But Aren’t)
Target has been the go-to for affordable and cute home decor for awhile now. But though I love many of their offerings (particularly when they partner with a well-known designer), sometimes their things still look, you know, like they came from Target. But not the items in this post.
While editing recent house tours, I’ve been surprised over and over again when I’ve spotted something I love in a room (and thought to myself it was probably out of my price range) only to realize that it’s a product from Target and totally within my budget! What’s great about these budget buys below is that many of them are reminiscent of pricier versions at more expensive stores. You can see how these affordable pieces really elevate the decor of the rooms below.
There’s a real array of colorful pillows on the sofa in this 425-square-foot Astoria, Queens, apartment, but I thought the two jewel-toned velvet pillows—one a detailed, tufted round pillow and the other with an intricate embroidery design on it—were pricey splurges from Anthro or Urban. But nope, they’re from Target!
The big round mirror with a gold frame really elevates this corner of the same home, but does so at a much lower price tag than other versions.
This Oregon A-frame cabin’s style is definitely more eclectic and rustic than expensive, but there was an elegant floor lamp tucked in a corner vignette I was just sure was one of those pricey splurges. Nope, it’s the Menlo Glass Globe Floor Lamp, currently on sale at Target. And its use in this home’s record playing corner really does finish off the arrangement perfectly.
The coffee table in this small and stylish Seattle home definitely fooled me; I was sure it was an expensive find from a high-end mid-century modern vintage store. It has sophisticated lines and a beautiful, rich wood finish. But it’s from Target, the Amherst Mid Century Modern Coffee Table. This would be a great buy for someone who’s looking for a high-end MCM vibe but doesn’t want to spend a ton on over-priced thrift pieces.
Sometimes the most surprising items in a home are those that exude a quiet elegance… that add just a touch of design detail. With tassels, macrame, pom-poms and more, it’s just the little extra mile that adds a richness to a product and a room. But the curtains in this 500-square-foot NYC studio aren’t an indulgent splurge… you guessed it: They’re from Target. The Tassels Textured Sheer Bordered Tassel Applique Rod Pocket Window Curtain Panel Pair is on sale right now.
In a World-Traveling Pediatric Doctor’s Extraordinarily Colorful, Lively Nashville Home, a maximalist, eclectic collector’s style makes it hard for any one item to stand out. But what caught my eye was a cool copper side table with a bold shape, something I was sure was a pricey buy. But of course, it’s from Target! And it seems the homeowner liked it so much, she bought it twice! With its bold metallic finish, the Hourglass Accent Table would add a touch of glam to any room.
The two floor lamps in this fixer upper home seem more like pricey purchases from Restoration Hardware or another high-end store. Perched on either side of a cute couch, they light up the room with their sophistication. But they’re not too expensive; they are budget Target finds. The Ellis Tripod Floor Lamp and the Shaded Arc with Marble Base Floor Lamp Brass, particularly used together, create a nice presentation.
