Busy's Lofty Fortress

Ohdeedoh reader Cathy offers us an inspiring reminder that if you can't find exactly what you want, you can just go ahead and build it. After searching for just the right loft bed for her three-year-old daughter's small room, Cathy finally designed and commissioned this fabulous bed that is part sleeping space and part medieval fortress.

Says Cathy on her blog Chunky Chooky:

For a long time I was on a mission to find a double loft bed for Busy's room. She is in a double bed because we had one and she has slept in it on the floor since she was a baby. She will be a giant (already is) like her parents, so we didn't see the point in putting her in a single bed; however, they take up a lot of space and her room is not huge. Could I find a double loft bed that wasn't revolting? Nope. So I talked to a builder friend about what I wanted and this is what he came up with.

Attached to the wall and sturdy enough to hold two adults and one child for bedtime snuggles, Busy's bed is currently raised about 40 inches off the ground. It's designed to be raised higher as Busy grows.

Thanks for sharing, Cathy!
