Q: Hi! I just bought my first home (woohoo!) and I'm trying to reuse some of its original light fixtures. The dining room has a gold pendant light that I would like to sand or repaint to make it look a little more industrial. We are also thinking about switching out the bulbs to make it look a little trendier...

Problem is, I'm scared to try new things and mess it up. I thought I'd run it by the Apartment Therapy community for some ideas. Thanks! -Sent by Mariana

Editor: Mariana, I salute you for doing your best to give old fixtures new life! This pendant is a tricky one, and it's fantastic that you're able to envision it in an entirely new style. Readers, how should Mariana go about taking this pendant from dated to contemporary—or even timeless? Anything goes!
