Mid-century modern design experienced a resurgence in the late 1990s after first appearing in the ’50s and ’60s, and it’s been a popular style choice in American homes ever since. With its clean lines and neutral shades, it’s incredibly versatile. Even if you’re a maximalist, it’s easy to layer a look over a couple of key MCM pieces. The only problem? More often than not, iconic, original mid-century modern furniture pieces cost a pretty penny.

Here’s the good news, though: If you love MCM style but don’t happen to have the bank for those vintage pieces you can easily find affordable options. There are plenty of ways to score beautiful MCM-inspired dressers, credenzas, sofas, and more without blowing your budget. We’re big fans of thrift shopping, of course. But if you know where to look you can find new spot-on pieces at bigger retailers, too. We’ve outlined a few of our favorite MCM sources here.

Wayfair

Wayfair’s Foundstone collection is filled with budget-friendly mid-century pieces (and you can often get them at even steeper discounts). You’ll find plenty of options for furniture, lighting, and even rugs, all influenced by MCM design. We can’t get enough of this sophisticated leather sofa — that streamlined shape is giving us all of the heart eyes.

Amazon

Amazon continually surprises us with its selection of furniture, and their in-house brands are no exception. Amazon’s Rivet line is dedicated to mid-century modern pieces, and features everything from stylish planters to living room essentials like the tufted sofa shown above. (And if you love it, it’s available as a chair and ottoman as well.)

West Elm

West Elm has mid-century pieces galore. In fact, it’s been the dominant style for the retailer for years — there are MCM pieces for every room in the house. And while West Elm skews pricey, they have a handful of affordable pieces, like their Oliver sofa, which sells for just under $700.

Target

Inspired by 1962 (the year Target was founded), the retailer’s Project 62 line, features everything from furniture and decor to bedding and, of course, lighting. Bring some brass accents into your home with the table lamp shown above, which retails for $30 and will make a major impact on your desk or nightstand.

AllModern

It’s no surprise that AllModern is full of, well, modern furniture and decor. Prices on this flash deals site are always low, and with new deals running daily, you’re guaranteed to find pieces for hundreds of dollars less than you’d expect. The warm tones, button-tufted headboard, and streamlined style of this platform bed are all MCM hallmarks—and it costs just over $600.

Another unexpected place to find MCM furniture? Walmart’s MoDRN line, which launched last year and includes stylish and budget-friendly furniture items like this TV stand. From luxe furniture to gorgeous decor, you’ll be able to recreate a Pinterest-worthy MCM space without spending more than a couple hundred dollars.

Apt2B

You might not be too familiar with Apt2B yet, but it’s definitely a site you’ll want to bookmark. Specializing in MCM furniture and lower prices (check out their outlet for even better deals), it’s a great resource if you’re looking for big ticket items (like their Douglas lift top coffee table).

Urban Outfitters

There’s a little bit of everything on Urban Outfitters, and that includes some impressive MCM finds (you can shop their entire Modern Natural line here). Their mid-century fold out desk featured here is a great example, with its natural finish and slim construction — not to mention secret storage spaces for your office supplies.
