I’ve spent quite a bit of time the last two years shopping for affordable, attractive ceiling lights for two successive houses…and it’s rough out there. However, these 10 pendants, many of them available for well under $100, prove that it’s actually possible to shed light without shedding too many dollars.

Paper Diamond Pendant at West Elm, $55

The marble trend is still going strong, right? I love that this light plays with that classic material, folding it upon itself and making it sheer and lighter than air.

I realize that this pendant is absurdly small, but it is also absurdly beautiful, and, being made of concrete and wood, is like catnip to me. Up your budget just a bit and purchase two or three more to create a stand out pendant cluster.

Just like the previous light, these look fabulous hung in a cluster, so buy one now and more when you can afford it.

Modern Globe Pendant at Target, $39.99

Simple, streamlined and oh so reasonably priced!

HEKTAR Large Pendant at IKEA, $59.99

This pendant has a classic, industrial style and is available in white, black and bronze, as well as small and medium versions for $24.99 and $49.99, though I personally love the large-scale version for a modern take on a traditional piece.

Globe Pendant at West Elm, $79-$99

I love this beautifully minimal combination of glass, brass, and black fabric cord. The globe is available in small and medium sizes (or large, for $149), as well as in clear glass.

Teardrop Hammered Metal Pendant Light at Target, $59.99-$79.99

This lamp has a unique shape, interesting texture, intriguing interior, and “a global feel,” meaning it will fit in well with all the “Moroccan-inspired” decor we’re seeing lately. It’s available in two sizes.

Speaking of interesting texture! This pendant is a lamp and a disco ball in one, “handblown by artisans in India, then cut by hand on a wheel to achieve its faceted face,” all for the low, low price of $79.

Target has a lot of great farmhouse-style pendants for under $100, but I think this sweet version, with its stripey cord and copper interior, is my favorite. It is available in red, white and green, and in a smaller version for $29.99.

Star and Dot Pendant at Land of Nod, $79.00

Finally, I suppose this light was intended for kids’ rooms, but I really love it and really need it. Made of sturdy iron, it’s just as charming turned on and off.

What else can you get for less than a Benjamin?
