There will always be a place in our hearts (and on our shelves) for physical books. Especially when they're works of art, like the soon-to-be-released Penguin Vintage Classics editions of Virginia Woolf's novels, with stunning art by Marimekko designer Aino-Maija Metsola.
Though she's usually designing clothing and not books, the process did have similarities, despite how they begin. "When I design a book cover, I start with someone else's text and build on it, but when I design textiles, I start usually with my own experiences, feelings, and thoughts," Metsola tells Co.Design. "But as the projects proceed, both the book cover design and the textiles become personal for me, so in that way, they are in the end similar."
The volumes join some other gorgeous reissues of classics, including Anna Bond from Rifle Paper Co's In Bloom collection, the always stunning work of Coralie Bickford-Smith, and Jessica Hische's covers for Barnes & Noble.
The new versions will be released in October by Penguin Vintage Classics.
