Check Out Some Spectacular Art From Burning Man
Burning Man—the festival where once a year, a self sufficient city full of artists, performers, and revelers springs up in the middle of the Nevada desert—came to a close yesterday. But the photos this year from Black Rock City are as impressive as ever. Check out some of the stunning art and architecture from this year’s event.
An estimated 70,000 people were in attendance this year, and for those who have never been, it basically looks like a scene from Mad Max: Fury Road, but with less intended murder and more peace, love and Diplo—people in various levels of costumery, battling with dust storms, and driving around in unbelievably accessorized vehicles.
Outside of the Man (pictured above), the one constant each year that is set aflame during the festival, there are a ton of other art installations that spring up around the playa that cater to that year’s theme. For 2017, it was Radical Ritual, which the festival invited people to create “interactive rites, ritual processions, elaborate images, shrines, icons, temples, and visions. Our theme will occupy the ambiguous ground that lies between reverence and ridicule, faith and belief, the absurd and the stunningly sublime.”
Here are just a few of the installations from this year’s Burning Man:
