Are Chemical Treatment for Spiderwebs On House Toxic?

Q: A pest-control man was recently at my house for a squirrel problem, and noticed the mass of spiderwebs that covers the exterior of the building (my house is next to a lake, and most of the other homes on the block have the same problem). He informed me that he could "eliminate" the spiders with some chemical treatment sprayed onto the exterior of the house. I'm intrigued, because the spiders leave a yucky mess that forces us to paint more often than would otherwise be necessary…

... On the other hand, I'm concerned that this chemical treatment would be unhealthy for people and other living things. Have you ever heard of treatments like this? Are they toxic to humans, pets, and Mother Nature?!
