If you're going to be romantic, you have to at least be practical about it. That's the lesson we learn reading about Good Housekeeping's design director Sarah Richardson and her lake house makeover in the latest issue of the magazine.
The home is filled with fanciful touches of coastal living. One of its most charming features is the candelabra hung above the dining table in the great room. A real candelabra, with real candles.
While living life by candlelight is decidedly romantic (and surely, beautiful), it isn't totally practical. Thankfully Sarah comes through with a tip for anyone else who wants to live like they're in an 18th century castle:
If you love the look of a hanging candelabra but want to light and blow out candles easily, just attach a rope to it and hang on a pulley from the ceiling.
Clever! What do you think?
