Child-Friendly Nativity Sets

As a young child I loved, I looked forward to so much, the day we would decorate the house for Christmas. The ornaments, the wreath on the door...but most of all, our nativity set. But why-oh-why do nativity sets always seem to be accompanied with the rule "don't touch", especially when it's so much fun to hide baby Jesus around the house? Here's our round up of nativity sets perfect for little hands to enjoy and play.

1. There are many great felted nativity sets on Etsy, I love this one in particular for its attention to detail and teeny-tiny hands. Made to order by Cloud Berry Crafts: $69.00 for a set of three figures.

2. Haba's Nativity Set, beautifully photographed by Misty Schutt on her One Girl's Rant blog, is made to be played with and available on Amazon for $98.99.

3. Minimalist cool, this wood set fits into its "stable" box, and plays off the fact that "each of the characters is... recognizable by its color, proportion and place in the composition. The project makes use of our learned experience from exposure to thousands of images, toys and christmas cards over the years." Maybe not for everybody, but to some, a piece of art. From Sebastian Bergne, £85.00.

4. This beautiful little set from India is available from eBay for just $33.99.

5. Playmobil makes my favorite of all the plastic options. There are larger and smaller sets out there, this one is $45.00 on Amazon.
