It’s the age old question, but just when is the interactive tool from Christmas Tree World that will determine the ideal number of Christmas decorations for your tree, based on its size and your personal preferences. While there’s no right or wrong way to go about it, the calculator was designed to make things that little bit easier this festive season.

“Whether you wait until the first of December or are straight out of the blocks as soon as Halloween is over, decorating your Christmas tree is one of the most exciting times of the year,” a spokesperson from Christmas Tree World said in a press release. “There’s no right or wrong way to go about it, but to help make things a little bit easier, we’ve created the following calculator to estimate the minimum number of baubles and lights you need to make your tree sparkle this Christmas.”

First, you select the height of your Christmas tree, with sizes ranging from 3ft. to 9ft. Next, you pick the size of your baubles, or Christmas tree ornaments. If you have multiple sizes, pick the option that best suits the majority of your ornaments. Next, the tool asks you to choose how you like to decorate your tree — options include minimalistic, jam-packed, or somewhere in between the two. Finally, select whether your tree is a half tree, a slim tree, or a full tree.

As an example, I tested out the tool for my own 5ft. full Christmas tree, which I like to be decorated somewhere in between minimalistic and super busy. The majority of my ornaments are medium-sized.

The results suggested that I should use 88 ornaments and 624 LED lights for a picture-perfect finish. While this still may be a little *too* busy for me based on the size, it’s nice to have somewhat of a guideline.
