Sitting in Eisenberg’s coffee shop last Friday, we couldn’t help noticing that we were witnessing a face of between two classic designs.
On our right was the durable, 50’s diner salt and sugar shaker that might have been more than 20 years old and still working hard. On our left was a Coke Classic being served in a ephemeral, light plastic cup that would be in landfill if not recycled in the next two weeks.
All are classics. All are “good” designs. But somehow, the ones on the right seemed like a greater achievement. MGR
