Clean & Organized: Hidden Recycling & Shredding Center in a Kitchen Cabinet

Nestled alongside our slide out trash can and recycling bins is a convenient feature, tucked away from sight, yet still within easy reach.

In this age of identity theft and privacy concerns, my wife and I decided to start shredding anything that had our names and addresses printed on it, including envelopes and pharmacy labels. The trouble was the paper shredder was in our home office while our recycling bins were located on the other side in the kitchen. Admittedly not a huge inconvenience, but I decided it was still worth optimizing this everyday task.

We noticed our IKEA kitchen cabinets left quite a bit of extra space on the sides, even with trash cans placed within. This would be the perfect place for a paper shredder to fit into for our daily recycling needs! After scouring online we found the Black & Decker CC600's measurements to be an absolute perfect fit, coming in at an extremely slim 6.1" width.

The result is a tight, but perfect fit for our 15" wide pull cabinets! The power plug runs through the back of the cabinet and over to our Roomba vacuum "garage" under the sink where we were already wired for power.

Now it's extremely convenient to recycle, shred, and throw out the garbage all in the same spot. Admittedly, it's a small convenience, but a small victory for space optimization.
