She DOES look a little serious, but I love this helmet. I know it’s not quite the season yet, but I’ve been biking NYC for the past year, tried a few helmets and this is the best one I’ve found. The picture above shows it with it’s “Nordic” wool liner that is great for the cold weather, and it comes right out with velcro. Meanwhile, the helmet is comfy and snug and SURPRISE it packs flat. Yep, the three rings of the helmet crush inside of one another, making it super easy to store. Sounds unsafe, right? Not at all as it’s won multiple awards and is totally safety certified.

The Closca Fuga hails from Closca Design out of Valencia, Spain, and is the second generation foldable helmet that they’ve made. Designed in partnership with The Polytechnic University of Valencia and Culdesac, it “comprises 3 mobile concentric rings hinged together with 2 stable positions. The helmet stays locked and inmutable while your head is inside, but folds smoothly in a second when you’re not using it, reducing the volume by more than 50% for easy storage.”

I’m totally tired of the standard issue bike racer helmets and snowboard style “smellmets”, so this was a very pleasing find.

Originally an Indiegogo startup campaign, Closca is adding all sorts of attachments for different kinds of weather, as well as some sort of digital NFC chip that will allow the helmet to speak to CityBikes so that you don’t have to use your card.
