From Too Big to Looking Built In: A Clever “Make-it-Work” Solution
Faced with a problem moving your old things into a new place, you have two options: Make it do, or do without. Charlotte thankfully chose the former when an heirloom piece of furniture didn’t quite fit in the English home her family fell in love with. The dresser and hutch in the right side of the photos above were handed down through Charlotte’s family and were nearly a perfect match, dimension-wise, for an alcove in the dining room, save for 3 or 4 inches.

Relaxed Design Inspiration from Awesome Australian Homes
Is it just me, or has there been extra awesomeness in our recent house tours coming from Australia? Their success is no doubt due in part to our talented photographers capturing these spaces, but these homes seem to have an effortless, breezy sense of fun in them which makes them memorable. Lots of colors, fun patterns, interesting shapes and more aren’t restricted to just kids rooms.

Before & After: A 1950s Kitchen Finally Gets New Cabinets & A New Modern Look
When Elise and Ben bought their Mount Washington house, the kitchen looked like this. They used this sad kitchen for five years until they finally updated it. The end result is modernized, but still captures the spirit and integrity of the storied older house. Using IKEA cabinets to keep the costs down, they were able to upgrade and personalize the look with Calcutta marble and Schoolhouse Electric hardware for all the cabinets.

Before & After: A “Florida Beach House” in Canada

The project encompassed two stories, and everything was to be updated, from the ceiling fixtures all the way to the baseboards. The idea here was to bring this out of date house into 2015. Name: Margaret Sche and Gabe Belgara Location: Uptown — New Orleans, Louisiana Size: 1,300 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rented Theirs is a Texas love story. Margaret can thank her mom for insisting she join her for some live country music and two-steppin’ on that fated Friday night when she met Gabe at Blanco’s. The beloved Houston dance hall—now closed—was one of Gabe’s favorite honky-tonks, and sparks flew when the two met.
