Stretching a dollar is sometimes a necessity, but it’s also fun. Scouring Craigslist, flea markets, discount stores, and garage sales are a way of life for her. In fact, she’s gotten so good at finding Craigslist deals she started Curating Craigslist to share her finds with people in the Nashville area.

Welcome to Lux Lodge, the inspirational Hollywood Hills home of artist, fashion consultant, and designer, Desanka N. Fasiska. A 1963 A-frame home redesigned by Desanka, it’s filled with her discerning creative touches.

Name: Sophia and Sebastian Black Location: Washington DC Size: 3,000 square feet Years lived in: 28 years owned The Blacks have the type of house that engages even the passersby. Sophia and Sebastian built their house in the late eighties on a beautiful and coveted piece of land overlooking a valley; the house itself has as much artfulness as the spaces inside. [Even while I was there for this house tour, two pedestrians happened to stop and tell the homeowners how much they loved the house!

The winner of HGTV Design Star won America over with her beautiful designs, and her cheerful, infectious personality. Now on OWN’s Home Made Simple, this design star is making everyone’s home a little happier with her signature colorful and exuberant style.

Name: Ben and Viv Yapp and their one year old son, Covey Location: Sydenham; London, United Kingdom Size: 890 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; owned Set in an old dairy mews in South London is the eclectic and creative home of the Yapp family. You may remember the cool colored House Call of Viv Yapp from the summer— the wall colors were so striking in the photos that I had to go and see them in person.

Her eclectic Echo Park home, which houses a diverse collection of art, reflects her fun-loving attitude and warm personality.

Name: Micha Thomas, co-founder of The Made In America Project Location: Laurel Canyon-Los Angeles, CA Years lived in: less than 1 year; rent Micha Thomas is the co-founder of the Made In America Project, a grass roots operation to bring love and attention to small domestic brands and companies. Her home in Laurel Canyon is a perfect mix of Southern California and Santa Fe style and the ultimate Bohemian retreat .

Location: South End; Boston, Massachusetts Size: 1,975 square feet Years lived in: 1 year Abby Ruettgers has seen a lot of change in recent months. A year ago, she was simultaneously renovating her new home and creating a new business. But if you think that’s tough, just try wrangling her Bernese Mountain dogs, Cooper and Keegan. Abby’s store Farm & Fable, specializing in vintage cookbooks and cookwares, opened in November a mere 46 steps from her front door.

Name: Christina Simon, co-owner of Feathers Boutique, interior designer at Mark Ashby Design and graphic designer with clothing line through Alchemy Design. Shares home with partner Ed Davis. Location: Windsor Park, Austin Texas Size: 1100 square feet Years lived in: Owned 10 years Christina wears a lot of hats. She’s an interior designer for a high-end residential design firm in Austin. She’s personally tackled some hip commercial spaces like Stubbs, Trinity Hall and Emos Austin.

Name: Dustin Audet and Ali Elman of Rust & Varnish Location: Lohi, Denver Size: 961 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; Owned Although Ali & Dustin, the dynamic design duo behind Rust & Varnish made their home in Colorado, their California roots and their insatiable love for the beach inspired its design to be reminiscent of the sandy shores of the West Coast.

Name: Peggy Hsu and Chris McCullough — architects and co-founders and owners of Hsu McCullough, an architecture practice based in Los Angeles. Location: Los Angeles, California Size: 1,130 square feet (house) + 350 square feet (detached garage) on 5,700 square foot lot Years lived in: 7 years Husband and wife architects Chris and Peggy founded a firm together, and they also collaborated on the remodel of their Los Angeles home.

Location: Bloomingdale, Washington, DC Size: 2,800 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Before you even ask, yes, people have tipped Gypsy the cow. Liz had to cement her in. “When I move again, I’m planning to dig her up and take her with me,” she said. After all, Gypsy is more than just a goofy lawn ornament. Liz grew up in Arizona, where her father is a cattle rancher. Gypsy is an homage to her childhood.

Name: Kathrin Smirke and Brian Smirke Location: Joshua Tree, California Size: 1,000 square feet Years lived in: A little over 1 year (part-time) Kathrin and Brian put an ad on Craigslist looking for a cabin in Joshua Tree. They were so surprised when they received an e-mail from someone with a geodesic dome in the desert. Before the dome was even put on the market, Kathrin and Brian were in escrow to buy it. They often say it was fate; the dome found them!

These New Orleans artists never imagined they would end up renting their beloved home in the Lower Garden District to move into their 710 square foot investment property.

Name: Robert Harbour Location: Eagle Rock; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,500 square feet Years lived in: Less than 6 months You may remember Robert’s previous home from his house tour 2 years ago. He emailed me a few months ago, saying he purchased a beautiful new midcentury home and was in the process of restoring it. Robert has used a handful of the same furnishings in his new place, while making a few new purchases.
