“I wanted to take this warm-toned, early-2000s nightmare and turn it into a modern dream,” the condo owner says.

In Germany, where this renter lives, it’s common for rental units to not come with a kitchen — the renter must build their own!

Wisconsin-based interior designer Emily Winters of Peabody’s Interiors was tasked with an all-too-classic mission: An outdated kitchen from the late 1990s to early 2000s was in need of a modern makeover — and a much more functional layout.“It was a sea of natural maple cabinetry with sponge-painted walls and Corian countertops,” Winters says of the original kitchen.

This bathroom got a top-to-bottom redo.

The vanity was too bulky, and the mirror was “laughably wrong” for the room.

“It was a blank slate with so much potential to become something stylish, fun, and functional,” the homeowner says.

Removing "layers on layers of wallpaper" helped create a cozy, family-friendly dining space.

The bathroom was last on my fixer-upper to-do list, but I finally got to it.

It's an homage to Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner.

“I really like the feel of an old library, but I also love some elements of more modern style,” the apartment owner says.

“My plants love it,” the DIYer says.

“It 100% paid off,” the homeowner says.

Plus, the homeowner wanted to create a “boudoir” vibe!

“I love curvy furniture,” the apartment dweller says. “I like things that are kind of playful.”
