Baby Rooms

Names: Estela Luz and Ada Maria (2.5 and 9 months)Location: Takoma Park, MD Danielle has two wonderful spaces to share with us today: her daughters’ “Waldessori” playroom and their artsy sunroom: Ada, our little one, is on the move. Today I turned my back and found her in the middle of a large pile of tiny slobbery bits of paper and decided it was time to re-think the playroom – shift everything up a level and create some inviting play spaces for both girls.

Name: two children (4 and 1)Location: West Village, New York City Doryn grew up in a house in which the kid options were few and far between. While she did not wish to turn her home over to her kids, Doryn successfully created wonderful kid friendly places that integrate well into the overall design. In addition to each of her two children’s bedrooms, there is a great playroom on the ground floor.

Name & Age: Mildrid, 7 weeksLocation: Chicago, IL Room Size: 11×9 feet Mildrid is brand new, but she already has a beautiful art collection and a wonderful library, all thanks to her parents, Jurgita and Vlad. They worked hard to put together this lovely room in anticipation of Mildrid. She is still rooming in with her folks, just down the hall in the very room where she was born. When she makes the move to her crib Mildrid is sure to love this room that started with an elephant and a girl.

Name: Stella (6)Location: Alamo Square neighborhood, San FranciscoRoom Size: 10′ x 16′ (160 s.f.), not including closet We have featured shared rooms before but they usually focus on how two or three siblings occupy one space. An example which we do not see as much is a shared space between a parent and a child. This is exactly what Tiffanie did in her San Francisco apartment, where every square foot counts.

Name: Lucas Wren (18 months)Location: Berkeley, CaliforniaRoom Size: ~150 sq. ft. When you’ve got 150 square feet and no closet to work with, decorating your child’s room poses special challenges. Lisa Jackson found solutions to these issues with a fantastic blend of high end pieces and affordable design.

Just because their housing is temporary doesn’t mean Jessica wasn’t enthusiastic to create a beautiful room for her daughter. She shares: My husband and I live at Hanscom Air Force Base in standard base housing that’s about 60 years old. Just imagine primer white walls and beautiful old wooden floors. As soon as we found out we were expecting our first child, my mind started running wild with all of the decorating possibilities for the nursery.

When Vicki Eastland’s family moved from an ultra-modern townhouse to a 100-year-old cottage, there was some serious redecorating to do. Vicki met the challenge head on, though, and after scouring flea markets and vintage shops on Etsy, she’s managed to design a room for her 16-month-old son Leif that combines a Victorian aesthetic with modern sensibility.

Name & Ages: Rocky M Olsen III, 2 months oldLocation: Grayslake, ILRoom Size: 10′ x 10′ When Abbey submitted a few pictures of her son Rocky’s Star Wars nursery, we must admit our heart skipped a beat. It is a perfect balance of tribute and taste that brings together a bunch of fun themed accents, a vintage piece of furniture and a cross-stich from Grandma and pulls it off beautifully.

Name: Nick (12) and Lucas (8)Location: Upper West Side, ManhattanRoom Size: Bedroom is 240 sqft and Playroom is 144 sqft.Jane has a beautiful home, that, while child friendly, makes very few aesthetic sacrifices. Her boys’ bedroom and playroom are no exception. The rooms are sophisticated spaces that, at the same time, burst with excitement and the potential for adventure for Jane’s two playful but wise-beyond-their-years young boys.

Name & Age: Eric, 1.5 weeks(!) oldLocation: Austin, TX When Ohdeedoh friend Luciana let us know that she was decorating a nursery for a baby boy, we couldn’t wait to see what she put together. Baby Eric’s nursery was lovingly decorated in advance of his October 15 birth day. Welcome home, little man.

Names: Olivia (4) and Emma (2)Location: Stockholm, SwedenRoom Size: 17 square meters Jeanette, proud mom of Olivia and Emma, is a dedicated event and product manager at a computer games publisher by day but she is passionate about designing children´s spaces in her off time.

Name: Eulalie (8 months)Location: Townsville, Queensland, AustraliaRoom Size: 3m x 4mBefore becoming a new mom, Claire was a fashion stylist in Sydney. Since then, a surprise to no one after taking this room tour, she has developed a true passion for interior design and styling. What might surprise you is that Eulalie’s nursery was an evolution, starting out as a simple gender neutral room with just the handmade crib (that was Claire’s as a baby!) and a couple of pieces of furniture.

Names: Gus Lula (1)Location: Georgia When Britt and Keith started the process of adopting two children from Ethiopia, they started dreaming, painting and stitching up a room for their babies. Working with a few key pieces she had acquired in the course of decorating her home, Britt designed this lovely gender neutral space, not knowing if she and Keith would bring home boys or girls.

Name & Age: Henry Sparrow (5 months) Location: San Diego, CA Room Size: 135 square feet Often when we see vintage style nurseries, they’re the only part of the home with this vibe, but in this residence, Henry’s weet little sleep space is a perfect extension of his parents’ vintage style and it feels right at home. Jamie of Desert Fete put together a beautiful room for her son Henry.

Name: Ava (4) & Piper (3)Location: Brisbane, AustraliaRoom size: 2.4m x 4.5m For this Room Tour post, we have not one but two rooms to share with you from sisters Ava and Piper! Their rooms compliment each other so well that we couldn’t just feature one. With fresh white walls, furniture with clean lines and pops of pattern and color, you can’t help but feel cheery! Their mom Hannah shares with us her inspiration for her daughters’ bright spaces.

Name: State Aloysius (13 months)Location: Dallas, TXRoom size: 13.5 ft x 13.5 ftIf you close your eyes and picture a little boy’s cowboy inspired room in Texas, we’re betting you’d come nowhere close to picturing this room. Two entire walls of windows with breezy white drapes keep it light and fresh, and the overall look is just about as gender neutral as it gets.

Name: Tripp (6 weeks)Hometown: Dallas, TXRoom size: 19″ x 13″ Red is the color of love, vitality, fire trucks, and cherry sours, so what a perfect accent color for a nursery. Tripp’s mom, Jennifer, went all out with the red pops to create a bright, happy place for her new baby boy. We love the fire engine red crib and daybed, the vintage plumbing valve dresser knobs, and the bold, graphic alphabet wall.

Name: Ross (16 months)Location: Lexington, SCRoom Size: 11′ x 12′ You know you’ve hit the nail on the head when it comes to interior design for kids when you just can’t stop smiling after you’re all done. We’re not sure about this family, but we’re grinning ear to ear at all the thrifted finds and diy projects in this space. It’s part vintage, part modern and it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Name: Polly Age: 3 Location: Totnes, Devon, UK Room size: 16.4 x 11.4 foot Chances are, you’ve probably seen Jane Foster’s work, and we’ve featured her many times ourselves. Her work whole-heartedly celebrates the bold shapes, patterns and colors from the 60’s and 70’s – one can’t help feel a bit nostaligic when admiring her designs. When it was time to create a space for her daughter Polly, she replicated this passion for vintage and retro design.

Yellow and grey are two of our favorite colors and together here they are a match made in heaven (not to mention the cool pops of red). Sherri tells us about her son’s terrific room: When I found out we were having a boy the first thought that popped into my mind was, “How on earth can I decorate a baby boy’s room?

Kids: Unknown; foster kids expected any day, one or sibling pair ages newborn – 5 yearsLocation: Nashville, TNRoom Size: 10′ x 11′ Martina and her husband Jason were in a unique position when designing the kids’ room for their house. They still don’t know how many, what gender, and what ages the children they foster will be.

Names & Ages: Phia, 12 and Anthony, 5Location: Yonkers, NYRoom Size: Approximately 200sf Sara has a knack for organizing and zero tolerance for clutter. Both of these traits are clearly evident in Phia and Anthony’s shared bedroom. It’s no easy task to divide a room between a twelve-year-old girl and her five- year-old brother but a combination of cleverly arranged shelving units, distinctive paint colors and a few good-natured children make it all work wonderfully.

Name: LockeAge: currently 5 weeks 🙂Location: Toledo, OhioRoom size: 120 square feet Mary Wyar is a professional photographer who does stunning wedding portraiture. She doesn’t shoot photos of babies or nurseries, so we certainly feel lucky that she shared with us these beautiful images of her newborn son’s room. We love the clean, modern lines, while the bold use of color keeps it playful.

Name: Eliza Age: 5 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Room size: 11 ft. x 12 ft. When we received Melissa Nobb’s Room Tour Submission we were quite impressed with her daughter Eliza’s vintage inspired room. Not only is it lovely and cozy with lots of pretty feminine touches, perfect for a little girl, but the shear volume of antiques and vintage items is certainly awe-inspiring.

When it comes to designing children’s rooms, there are no rules. But we still have some suggestions for elements to include to make a child’s room a place for comfort, discovery, play and memory making. Here are 10 “somethings” for every child’s room: 1. Something To Sleep On: A bed is pretty basic – but make their bed soft, warm and inviting and you can bet they’ll spend more time on it and in it than just sleeping. 2.

Location: Ann Arbor, MI >> Like her friends, we’re amazed that mom-to-be Emily made almost everything in her daughter’s nursery: toys, quilts, cross-stitch, burp cloths, chair slip cover, bird mobile…the list goes on! Although not yet lived in, this nursery speaks volumes of love and attention, originality mixed with vintage pieces, and has “Phoebe” creatively written all over it (both literally and figuratively).
