When you’re as creative as Jessie and Deanna, settling for a typical white-wall one-bedroom isn’t the ideal.

Name: Jenny Mountford, owner of Attic and Fable Location: Bridgetown, Western Australia Size: 1894 square feet Years lived in: 2.5 years, owned Jenny has always been drawn to color, the avant garde and items that have a history. To hold something in her hands that’s been held by many hands before her gives her such pleasure, allowing herself to wonder about the life both it, and its owner, may have led.

Name: Arnold Baumheiser Location: New York City Size: 1,328 square feet Earlier this year we got to see an in-depth look at Dev Shah’s New York apartment — he’s the main character of Netflix’s hit show Master of None. What a unique, comfortable, accessible space the apartment’s set design portrays. It doesn’t really matter if the apartment is “real” or not; Dev’s home is filled with inspiration anyone could use.

Doilies, murals, fake cake and Victorian vibes...Cole Escola (Matthew on Hulu's Difficult People) lives in a 425-square-foot candy-colored Brooklyn apartment.

Name: Danica and Robin Location: Highland Park — Los Angeles, California Size: 750 square feet Years lived in: 4 months, rented When Danica and Robin decided to move to Los Angeles from Oakland, their apartment search began with location in mind. Sure, it’d be nice to have a large space, but it wasn’t a priority — especially with a new baby and Los Angeles’ tight rental market.

Retro Halloween masks, handmade spooky DIYs, glitter, pom-poms, tassels and a ton of faux trees — crafter and blogger Jen Perkins doesn’t just set a few fake tombstones out on the lawn and call it a day. When it comes to Halloween decorating, every inch of her home (inside and out) is splashed with spooky decor. This is the third year in a row we’re showing off what her home looks like in October.

Over the years, she has collected items and furniture from thrift stores across the provinces to revive and restore it, creating a place full of magical whimsy and intrigue.

Name: Erik Kenneth Staalberg Location: Miracle Mile — Los Angeles, California Size: 1,000 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years, rented After searching countless websites every day for months, Erik finally found his dream apartment: A charming, pre-war historic building in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile. Though it wasn’t perfect when he moved in, its been a complete passion project and continues to be everyday.

The photo stylist by day/artist all the time has decorated her three-bedroom home in a comfortable way that tells the story of a creative always willing to be inspired.

Name: Jessica Pezalla and Hazel the dog Location: Alphabet District — Portland, Oregon Size: 400 square feet Years lived in: 1 year, renting When Jessica Pezalla, an artist and designer who founded the creative studio Bramble Workshop, was looking for a new apartment last year, she wanted to live in an urban location and in a vintage building.

Name: Amanda Suter and Dmitri Slavashevich Location: Hillcrest — San Diego, California Size: 1,848 square feet Years Lived In: 6 months, owned Amanda and Dmitri moved into their home this past July, but you wouldn’t guess it. Their Victorian vernacular cottage feels cozy and lived in, with lots of personal details.

The moment you step into Kate‘s spacious apartment, you forget where you are. Kate, one half of the Minneapolis-based custom hand-painted and printed wallpaper and furnishings company She She, lucked out when she nabbed this spacious, bright, and beautiful upper floor apartment.

Size: 2,800 square feet Years lived in: 1 years, owned Our family is full of adventure seekers who love skiing, hiking and kayaking, so discovering an unloved A-frame cabin tucked away in the off-the-beaten path community of Serene Lakes had a ton of appeal to us.

Hannah and Jean’s 1920s home in Australia is filled with amazing pieces sourced from Gumtree, discovered in op shops, and passed down from family and friends. If you don’t have a steady supply of secondhand treasures, don’t fret, because now you can shop the style!

Hortense’s Spanish home is cozily filled with beloved pieces—as she noted, “Every object or piece of furniture has a story.” She searched hard for each and every piece, but I’ve done the work for you!

With three children ranging from 14 to 22 years-old and two lively pups, there’s a lot of activity and a lot of opinions to consider.

Even though his house is small and a rental, he took the time to customize it to fit his needs. He is so proud of his small home and it shows!

My search started after already living in New York for 8 years. I had moved just after turning 18 to go to college. After 1 year in the dorms I was ready for my own place and I found a great deal on a 1 bedroom in the West Village off Washington Square Park.

This was Homepolish’s challenge — and one that they’ve risen to with comfort and grace. The folks at Homepolish are known for mixing vintage treasures with modern and classic pieces.

Name: Jordan Weinstein Location: Sunnyside; Denver, Colorado Size: 670 square feet Years lived in: less than one year; Rented Ask Jordan what he does for a living and he’ll tell you, “peddling male vanity.” It’s an unusual cause, but one we can get behind. The owner of Denver’s now iconic Proper Barbershop has a strong sense of manly style that evokes both the dapperness of the 1920s and the dark corners of ’80s punk rock.

Lauren greeted me like an old friend, and her personal warmth and natural ease are evident throughout her home, as much of it is designed with one-of-a-kind pieces acquired through her relationships with local businesses and artisans.

They found this 500 square foot downtown apartment on their only day of searching and they knew that they had to have it (especially after seeing the next one on their list).

Name: Allison + Matt Location: East Village (Alphabet City); New York, New York Size: 750 square feet Years lived in: 9 months Allison and Matt moved into this one-bedroom apartment, their first as a couple, nine months ago. Together they’ve created a space that’s a perfect reflection of their roots (he’s from Tennessee, and she’s from Seattle), their mutual love of travel, and their new life together.

I’d “liked” one of my artist friend’s newest pieces and old Zuckerberg and pals asked if perhaps I’d like Robyn’s work too? Well, I think I would, thankyouverymuch.

Name: Elissa Hall Location: King; Portland, Oregon Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rented When Elissa finally found her Portland home, it had been preserved to honor the integrity of the architecture while also gently renovated to make the most of the space and available light. With the gift of a clean palette in front of her, Elissa’s challenge was then to make the space homey and reflective of her taste while nesting in with two other roommates.

A large and open space, the couple had to create rooms in a floor plan without many existing walls or distinct areas. They combined styles to craft cozy hangout spots all over the beautiful apartment.

Balee and Dylan’s Nashville home was inspired by Stanley Kubrick films and the Beverly Hills Hotel, and while you won’t be able to replicate the details and wood paneling original to the 1950s ranch house, the Mid-century modern-inspired furnishings are widely available!

Colie and her husband have only lived in their 781 square foot North Loop Minneapolis apartment for a few months, but it doesn’t show.
