8 Rooms That Just Might Make You Abandon Your All-White Bedding
For as clean and unobtrusive as all-white bedding can be, it’s also a bit, well, boring. So we searched our home tours high and low for eye-catching bedding–that isn’t plain white—to show just what a little color and pattern can do in a bedroom. Here are eight bedrooms that might make you rethink your all-white bedding.
1. Throw Power
A little color goes a long way in an all-white room. Case in point: Mel and Ryan Tonkin’s Australian bedroom, where a bright blue throw (trimmed with hot pink tassels) and a couple of colorful pillows turn an otherwise unassuming space into an impactful scene.
2. Cool Contrast
If you thought two bold colors in the same bedroom would overpower the space, then think again. The bright orange textiles we spotted in Valorie Hart’s New Orleans’ home actually help subdue the bright green walls and bedding, in turn creating a colorful, but curated, bedroom.
3. Patterned Potential
Whoever said earth tones were boring has obviously never seen Rachel Castle’s Sydney, Australia abode. Instead of employing eye-catching colors to bring a touch of drama to her bedroom, Castle kept the palette neutral and went with interesting earth-toned patterns and shapes to make a stylish statement without overwhelming the space.
4. Show Your Stripes
Who knew something as simple as striped bedding could make such a big impact in a white-walled room? Take a cue from Cécile Gariépy and play up your white box of a bedroom with some subtly striped bedding, just like we saw in her Montreal apartment.
5. Palette Play
Searching for a sleek way to offset a colorfully wallpapered room? Opt for bedding that draws from the hues of the wallpaper, like the navy comforter we spotted in Terra Zosel’s Minneapolis, Minnesota, attic bedroom, to nicely bring the colors of the room together.
6. Pillows Matter
Never underestimate the power of a few colorful throw pillows. Brightly hued throw pillows, like the yellow ones we spotted in Jeremy Lugo and Elaine Musiwa’s Bronx bedroom, energize the neutral bedding while drawing from brightly painted walls.
7. Life Imitates Art
A striking piece of art, like the one hanging above Janet Varney’s bed in Los Angeles, provides plenty of color inspo for brightly hued bedding—no wall paint necessary.
8. Layer Up
Why stick with one color or pattern for your bedding when you can use several? Follow in Helen Edwards’ footsteps and layer your bed with a medley of prints, patterns, and colors to score an eclectic, and super snug, bedroom scene.
