I promised last week to shock you out of your winter blues with a few volts of bright color. For a quick fix of color inspiration, let's take a little run through Chelsea…The image above is a Color Therapy Photo Collage combining items from today's virtual tour. You, too, could own a sitting room like this. For discriminating tastes only...

I'm basically ignoring paint this week and looking instead at painted things. I tripped across the exhibition of Imi Knoebel's big new work at Mary Boone gallery and thought, "wow — that's a really great room." Imagine these large paintings filling your loft or one-bedroom, add a few smart side chairs or a fainting couch and that's your décor. Instant sunshine. I've long argued against white walls under art collections but in this instance I see no other option: let painters do what they do best and paint!

I further tripped across the street to Sebastian+Barquet and into a smart show of Memphis-style furniture ca. 1985, and looks like the crème de le crème from what I know. Same thing here — instant color explosion. This style isn't always exactly my thing (I'm Mr. Bruise Colors) but I know quality when I see it.

This is of a sideboard by Johanna Grawunder.
