Describe your space:

My home is so important to me and my family and has evolved over the period of time we have lived here. A lot of our furniture is inherited mid-century modern pieces from my grandparents, which works well in our family home and provide lots of storage for our things. Space is at a premium with five of us living here so we rely on good storage solutions and using up every corner and piece of a room! For example, when we moved in there was a small storage cupboard off the landing, which we turned into an office with the addition of a Velux window and shelving. It is the perfect little home office!

Did you DIY anything in your space? And, if so, what's your favorite DIY?

Our home was very dated and in need of repair when we moved in. We have painted every room and stripped all the wooden floors to create light and bright rooms to maximize the space in our home. We created a cupboard above the bath for extra storage in an unused alcove. Every corner of our home has to work hard to create space and storage for all our things. We also installed a peg rail and panelling along the bathroom wall so that there are hooks to hangs towels on as we had little hanging space. This has also added so much needed character to the room.

How do you make your small space work for you and feel bigger than it really is?

We inherited the mid-century Ladderax shelving system in our living room from my grandparents. They bought it in the 1960s and I remember it so well in their house when I was a little girl. It is a brilliant storage solution as it is modular shelving system so we can change and adapt it according to our storage needs. We have just moved some of the shelves around to create more space for my husband's growing record collection. It is lovely to have the Ladderax system in our home — not only is it stylish but it also brings back so many memories of my family.

How does your home reflect you?

Our home is a family home so there are lots of things around us such a photographs, books, drawings and trinkets that reflect our family and personalities. We have a lot of vintage furniture in our home that has either been inherited from family members or purchased from markets and charity shops and I love that we are breathing new life and memories into these pieces. Our home is busy with five people coming in and out so it needs to be a relaxed home with not too many precious perfect items in it! I think we have created a cozy and welcoming space where we all feel happy.
