These Beanbag Chairs Were Designed To Feel Like You’re Being Cuddled
As if beanbag chairs couldn’t get any more comfortable, Bezalel Academy design student Yali Paz designed a series of beanbags with the sole purpose being to cuddle. Paz was inspired by the natural contours of a parent’s arms when cradling an infant, and designed a range of furniture and accessories so that one can “self-hold” and personalize their cuddling experience.
The final collection was dubbed “My Second Childhood.” “Relax, disconnect and feel like a baby once again,” Paz wrote in a July 18 Instagram post. “In my graduation project I created a set of soft furniture inspired by parental holding positions. With the help of a soft shell, recesses, pockets and gentle rocking the set allows users to return to the feeling of being held and protected.”
According to DesignBoom, Paz used soft shells, recesses, and gentle rocking to convey the sense of parental holding. She also used adjustable straps and buckles in one hammock-like design to customize the cocoon feel.
And in another piece, Paz designed a bed-sized rocker that includes divots for the head, as well as pockets under the chest to place your arms. Thanks to the arm pockets, using this rocker feels like giving yourself a hug.
The final item in her collection is a string of attached beanbags that are meant to be worn and used almost like a weighted blanket. They can be configured in multiple different ways to give the user a sense of comfort.
As of right now, the My Second Childhood line is just a final graduation project. However, if Paz decides to take her creations to the mainstream, something tells us they would be an instant hit.
