Danish House Tour: Rita’s Copenhagen Coop
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Size: 700 square feet, 1 bdrm
Years lived in: 17 years
Rita is a long-time artist in Copenhagen who loves to cook. The Danish influences of her space are subtle but recognizable–the light colored wood, the cool lamps, the candles…
Rita has lived in her cozy home for almost two decades and it shows most in the kitchen and her bookshelves – her two biggest ‘collections.’ Artist cooperative housing developments in Copenhagen like this one, make it possible for so many artists there to live well on very little.
Rita clearly prioritizes entertaining in her home – the living room is the most inviting and a visitor sees when he or she walks in the door. This room is warmly lit by candles, large and small on any given evening, after the sun has set. The kitchen is incredibly stocked. In fact, on a week that Rita was out of town, we were able to make a delicious meal from food scavenged from her refrigerator alone!
