Dark (But Definitely Not Dreary) Home Libraries

I've always dreamt of having a library in the home that I will once own and who knows — maybe that dream will come true one day. I imagine it being dark with just enough light to curl up on the comfortable sofa with a glam reading light and drift off into a fantastic wonderland.

I'm typically one for bright white spaces but not when it comes to libraries. I love the dark and dramatic atmosphere and the ambience they create. I like to curl up with a book and just couldn't imagine doing so in a place absolutely illuminated with bright light and colors.

A few ways to achieve a dramatic home library is to start with the bookshelves. Paint them a dark navy blue, black or even smokey gray — each of those options will provide so much inspiration because so many other fantastic colors compliment so well. Add a glamorous gold chandelier or hot pink coffee table to break up the dark colors. Maybe even read a few pages of a book to gain some inspiration.
