Can we talk dream bathroom wish lists for a second?

One thing that’s been on mine for as long as I can remember—right after a standalone soaking tub, of course— is a double sink. Sure, it’s not something every bathroom has, but would be extremely convenient if you live with someone else and your schedules are annoyingly similar. The problem is, what do you do with that awkward strip of counter space? Your bathroom might be pretty utilitarian, but it can also become a bonafide design moment.

Below, seven smart ways to zhuzh up that potential wasted space. You can bet that once I get my soaking tub and dual sinks, I’ll be integrating a few of these into my very own dream bathroom.

Add the Essentials

Whether you want to remove your rings before washing your hands, remove makeup with a cotton swab, or simply set the mood before bathtime, it always pays off to be prepared. Not only will placing your essentials in the middle of your sink make everything super accessible, but you and your roommate won’t have to elbow each other to grab a Q-Tip! This Brooklyn house tour is packed with bold color, so the simple, white trinkets create a great contrast. The result? A look that’s clean, simple, and oh-so-easy. Scout’s honor!

Opt for Artful Accessories

What about just a pretty bowl or vase? You don’t even have to fill it with anything. Just choose something with an interesting shape, finish, or both. Let this Santa Barbara-based ranch show you how it’s done.

Get Green With Envy

The plant phenomenon isn’t leaving anytime soon, so you might as well add some green friends to the mix. Here, succulent and potted floor plant breathes some much-needed life into your bathroom and will make your space more photogenic. Oh, and don’t forget your toothbrush or hairbrushes!

Focus on Flower Power

If full-fledged plants feel too much like a commitment, opt for some beautiful blooms. In this Australian house tour, Katie Ridell placed some delicate flowers in colorful bud vases.

A Mirrored Marvel

Mirror, mirror on the wall; who’s the fairest of them all? This delightfully retro home in San Diego. For a bathroom that captures all your angles, add a small vanity mirror to this potentially awkward in-between space.

Keep it Simple

You don’t always need to place something in between your counters. Sometimes, less is more. In Lígia Baleeiro and Ramiro Pena’s Argentinian home, the lack of knickknacks puts the emphasis on these two gorgeous vessel sinks.
