Design Concept: The Backpack Bicycle
Wouldn’t this be incredible if it worked? No more clunky hallway storage systems for bikes, just fold it up to stow or go. Designed for the International Bicycle Competition by Chang Ting Jen, this bicycle could theoretically be folded into a rolling cart or a backpack…
Our problem with the concept is that the main frame of the bike is made from plastic, and we question the safety and stability of a plastic frame. (Plastic bicycles have been produced in the past and designs have been problematic, although new technologies might be able to solve previous design errors – any thoughts?) Anyway, the overall idea is a good one, and we hope to see more portable bicycle designs as the cost of gas goes up, more people go green, and bike transportation increases in popularity.
