How do you eat your breakfast in the morning? Rushing around, throwing some cereal in a bowl while you watch the news? Drinking a cup of coffee while you run out the door? We spotted both a design and life trend while perusing the exhibits and booths at Ambiente this year — the idea of making breakfast a more enjoyed and well-designed way to start each day.

We all enjoy a different type of breakfast — but the most important thing is the “enjoy” bit. Are you rushing through your last few minutes before you have to leave for work? Or are you taking the time to give your day a proper start? The three companies below had something special for the early part of the day.

But this trend is more than just buying new items (we’d argue you don’t really have to buy anything new at all) — it’s about considering how you can dress up this first part of the day, making it a pleasant ritual — a way for you to enjoy your home, take a little time for yourself in the morning and start your day off on the right foot.

Look not to the items we found at Ambiente below as a “must-have” list of things you have to buy for the perfect breakfast; look at them instead as inspiration for figuring out what you need to create the perfect breakfast time — served how you like it — for you!

Marcel Wanders’ “Dressed” for breakfast for Alessi

“Dressed” for breakfast and his “Dressed in wood,” two new lines (shown above) launched this year, are Marcel’s attempt to make breakfast a more lovely time — more of an experience. An egg cup is available in white porcelain or thermoplastic resin and comes comes with a stainless steel spoon with a hammer. Breakfast plates are adorned with his lace pattern can be used for toast or your favorite breakfast food. They have a jam tray and four sizes of biscuit jars. We love the multi-purpose
breakfast board the most.

Inspiration we took away: Items made just for your favorite breakfast foods (like an egg cup) or using the “nice” dishes for breakfast are an easy way to dress up the first part of your day.

Blomus’ sleek and small containers

Blomus always has clever and sleek items that make life better, but we loved the array of simple metal containers and trays we spotted in their booth, shown in the photo above. They reminded us of the sort of array of items you might find on a room service cart in a fancy European hotel — and that’s precisely the point. We can’t all wake up in a fancy hotel every morning, but can we make our own breakfast area a little more special?

Inspiration we took away: Focus on making breakfast a treat that you serve yourself every morning. And you can have your favorite foods in moderation when you serve them in smaller containers!

Fiskars’ “perfect” breakfast

Fiskars, the company known for clever tools, has a number of products that can help make breakfast run smoother. From smart and sleek tools like apple slicers, hand juicers, breakfast knives and more, it seems like no matter how you like to celebrate breakfast, Fiskars has a tool that will make it go faster and work easier. Their products really seemed to focus on the process of making breakfast a nicer and more pleasant experience.

Inspiration we took away: It’s about getting smarter and more efficient so that even a little bit of time can make breakfast special. Whether it’s doing prep-work the night before so all you have to do is throw a few things in a pan in the morning or using smarter tools so your breakfast prep work goes faster, it’s about customizing what you need to create the perfect breakfast experience for you and your family in the space and time you’ve got.
