I live with my boyfriend Travis. We're both into interior design and I'm sure we both wish we could start over again and do that. The furniture is a mix of his and mine. Nothing was really planned. We just went forward with what we already had/found and built around that. Also, fun fact — we had seen twenty six apartments before seeing this one.
Describe your home's style in 5 words or less: I love diagonal wood floors.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? There are quite a few things I'd change. But if I had to pick one, I'd like to be one floor up. My neighbor above has slightly more of a view and slightly more light. The extra flight of stairs is worth it.
What's the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I bought for the apartment was probably flowers and dried lavender from RoseHip. The lavender helps with sleep and the flowers are just pretty.
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? I just saw Lady Bird so I think she'd be pretty comfortable here.
What is your favorite room and why? Despite its small size and having no windows, I enjoy the dining room the most. There's a lot of nostalgia in there I think for both of us. Travis has his prayer rug from Turkey on the wall. The two shelves are from my grandmother's basement. It may not look it, but I think it's a very personal room for both of us. Plus, we eat there.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Before you buy the expensive pieces, go walk around the neighborhood on garbage day. You'd be surprised at what people want to get rid of. Also, avoid overhead lighting.
