It’s Time to Introduce Your Plants to Their Vintage Soulmate
I will never claim to have a green thumb. My local plant shop knows better than to try and sell me anything less than the most resilient greenery, and more than once I’ve tried to make dry leaves look gloomily intentional. Despite my lack of gardening skills, I love to dig through plant-packed homes on Instagram and drool over the inventive ways people have thought to display their collection.

Interior Decorator Natasha Habermann Picks Her Marketplace Favorites
When it comes to home decor, I have no problem gathering general inspiration (“warm minimalism seems good”), but getting to step two and creating a cohesive look (“how did I end up with so much black?”) is a whole different story. Splurge, Save, Steal: Plush and Stylish Vintage Rugs
Every design element needs it’s counterpart: for every shiny hardwood floor, your toes are probably also craving comfort from the right rug. Aside from the obvious underfoot plushness, rugs are essential for bringing fresh texture into a room, and a nice burst of color or pattern that you might not want on your walls. There are a ton of beautiful vintage rugs on the Marketplace, but these three stood out for being great deals (and yes, a well-deserved #treatyourself moment).

Build It on a Budget: Home Office Essentials from $20 to $299
I often end up on the sofa in a nest of throw pillows and blankets when I work from home. While comfortable, this arrangement doesn’t really provide focus to the tasks at hand. It’s why experts recommend carving out a nook where you can have an established space to buckle down and work. You don’t need much to get started, just a desk, a lamp and a chair. I built a few home office setups using secondhand and vintage finds from Marketplace.

The Best of Designer Arne Jacobsen on the Marketplace
One of the downfalls of an ambitious designer can be overthinking; your head is swimming with all of these concepts and forms and colors, and far too often function takes a backseat to frills. How many times have you seen some cutting-edge modern design unveiling and thought, “is….is that a chair? Where do your legs go? And why so many edges?!

Shine On with Decorative Brass Accents
If your home is anything like mine, it’s a mix of secondhand, lower-cost furniture with a few slightly more expensive pieces. It’s been a slow transition to upgrade from futons and flat-pack furniture as my budget allows it. I’ve learned that decor accessories with metallic finishes can really make a room look and feel more upscale. Brass particularly has a worldly quality to it that gives your belongings a polished appearance.

Bath & Body Works Is Bringing Back More Nostalgic Scents
If one were to open a time capsule put together by a teen in the 1990s, chances are there would be a hefty collection of fragrances and lotions from Bath & Body Works. 2017 is the Year of the Sofa
In my ramble through this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF — basically the design world’s answer to a runway show), I noticed something unusual: there were a lot of really, really great sofas. Usually the chair is the darling of the design world, presenting myriad ways to iterate. The sofa is a bit more of a challenge: it’s bigger, and because people think of it as a bit more of a practical piece, it needs to take into account comfort as well.

Velvet Gems We Want to Scoop Up

Stylish Furniture Finds from a Super Affordable Source: Sauder
In our own ways, we’re all creatures of habit. Whether that’s with precisely how we do things around the house, or with the brands we bring into our homes. The Best of Hans Wegner in the Marketplace
There’s a big difference between understanding the concept of a design style and recognizing individual artists’ work; Danish modernism has a lot of common themes that can make it easy to grasp, but designers like Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen have unique attributes all their own. Let’s start your formal design training with a look at how exactly Hans Wegner has maintained popularity well into the modern era.

Caveat Emptor: 7 Secrets to Try From Master Amazon Shoppers
What did we do before Amazon? I realize that the retail behemoth might be responsible for the death of the independent bookstore, but I’m still oh so grateful for/dependent upon the services it provides (and that’s even before Marvelous Mrs. Maisel hits Prime Video). Though, with so many sellers from all over the world offering products, you run the risk of getting items that are either no good, or flat-out not what was promised.

Collectible IKEA: Some Vintage Pieces Are Auctioning for Up to $50,000
When one thinks of IKEA, the questions of “collectible” and “resale value” aren’t generally ones that come to mind. More like, “Will this last?” But IKEA pieces dating back to catalogs as early as 1944 (yes, our stylist friends were just as shocked as you are RN) all of a sudden are generating major buzz on the auction and estate sale market.

An Exciting New Furniture Trend That’s Actually Affordable
One of my favorite trends in furniture is the comeback of cane. I remember it from my grandparents’ house in the ’80s (sticking your fingers into the weave), but, paired with contemporary materials and worked into modern shapes, it can also feel very fresh and very new. And the good news is that, unlike a lot of other furniture trends, cane is fairly democratic, appearing in a lot of admittedly very expensive pieces, but also a few at the more modest end of the spectrum.

Sleep Tight With the Right Nightstand for Every Budget
All hail the humble nightstand! As much as a comfy bed and light-blocking curtains are essential to a good night’s sleep, you can’t knock the impact that a nightstand can have on your relaxation time. It allows you to store a good book or crossword puzzle nearby in case you need to force a little drowsiness, keep your phone (which is probably also your alarm clock) close at hand, and find the perfect space to hide a midnight snack. Splurge, Save, Steal: Sleek and Modern Chandeliers
Nothing adds instant drama to a space quite like a chandelier. But if you’re anything like me, the word tends to draw up mental images of stuffy decor and overly-ornate crystal. Monday on Marketplace: A Bookcase for Every Budget
My apartment defies basic New York City cliches by having a “regular”-sized bedroom and a huge kitchen. But as someone who doesn’t cook very often, I’ve repurposed a whole section of open shelving into a makeshift bookshelf over my breakfast table. That’s because despite not making it into your general idea of apartment must-haves (like a sofa and bed), I think that you should try to work a bookshelf (or bookcase) into your home anyway you can.

The Future of Greeting Cards has Arrived (And Luckily It’s Just In Time for Mother’s Day)
Happy May everyone! I thought I’d take this moment to remind you (for your sake and for your mother’s) that Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Splurge, Save, Steal: Get Productive With a New Desk Chair
I’m here to sing the praises of the humble desk chair. As much as a clean and clear surface is an essential part of a workspace, you could argue that the right seating is what can really make or break your 9 to 5. For those of us who even occasionally work at home, desk chairs can be a kind of Goldilocks situation: if they’re too soft and unsupportive you’ll probably end up nodding off, and overly stiff models mean restless legs and sore backs.

On the Hunt for the Weird and Cool? Check out Reuse America Vintage Warehouse
Say what you will about odd finds for the home but I tend to gravitate to them. In my living room hangs a 5-foot marquee letter Y — an impulse purchase from Marketplace. Think Outside the Box: Package Free Shop Aims To Make Zero Waste Living Easy
