Apartment Therapy, Cloth & Company and Amazon Throw a Party!
It was a busy few days down in High Point, North Carolina this past weekend! We threw a raucous collab launch party with a big company, Amazon, and a small, brand new one, Cloth & Company, to launch our new capsule collection, which is an experiment with online retailing and digital printing. Here’s the post I wrote about the inspiration last week. Check out the collection’s launch page! The party was filled with both friends and those curious about what this was all about.

Splurge, Save, Steal: Chic and Charming Brass Finds
Brass accents in home decor is a trend that never ends. I have to wonder if it’s even a trend at all. The metallic element adds a bit of sparkle and history to its surroundings. Whether it’s polished for a high-glam effect or left tarnished for an aged patina, vintage brass is popular on Apartment Therapy Marketplace at all price points. The cute whale brass statue that currently lives on my coffee table is one of my own purchases from the Marketplace.

Sneak Peek: Our New Apartment Therapy Capsule Collab!
A few months back, my good friend Christiane Lemieux of Cloth & Company (and also founder of Dwell Studio) and her business partner Meganne Wecker (President of Skyline Furniture) asked me to collaborate on a capsule furniture collection using their brand new weapon: a huge digital printer on which they can now print designs in minutes. After getting the pitch and then touring the Skyline factory in Chicago, I was not just impressed. I was blown away.

Old Boots, New Tricks: L.L. Bean Taps Into Craft Movement with ‘Small Batch’ Boots
Freeport, Maine, is a lovely little coastal town, home to upstart craft brewery Maine Beer Co. and legendary outdoors outfitter L.L. Bean. But the two companies have more in common than just their quaint hometown. Maine Beer’s tremendously popular flagship IPA, Lunch, still flies off the shelves in Boston-area liquor stores years after its debut. But even harder to get is Dinner, a stronger, hoppier, double IPA only released in small batches a few times a year.

The Companies Changing the Way You Sleep
Mattress shopping used to involve lying awkwardly on dozens of questionably clean mattresses while a salesperson looked on impatiently, trying to keep track of countless subtle distinctions between options, paying a ton for delivery or truck rental, hefting the beast up two flights of stairs, and being stuck with a dud if your 5-minute impression in the store ended up being erroneous.

Keep it Fresh in Pink
While Facetiming with my younger brother and his girlfriend who recently moved to Colorado, I spied a rosy mirror in the background. It’s Millennial Pink, he corrected me. (Those kids keep me young.) He had recently updated a secondhand find to the muted pink hue that’s all the rage. It wasn’t until then that I noticed pink is everywhere – while rose gold may be on its way out, other shades of the trendy color feel fun, new and perfect for the spring season.

Retail Rebels: Furniture Brands Who Do It Differently
Purchasing a large item of furniture is stressful enough—the money, the commitment, the sheer real estate it will occupy—without also schlepping from store to store, paying for delivery, bribing your friends to help you carry it upstairs, and potentially hating it once you see it in your home. These seven retail disruptors have committed themselves to reinventing the furniture-buying experience for these modern times—and it seems to be working.

Monday On Marketplace: Great Deals Under $25
The term “good deal” is relative: someone may think that it’s about the amount saved, while others are sticklers for a low final ticket price, regardless of the original cost. Build It on a Budget: Makeshift Guest Room
Living in New York City comes with a few concessions. You don’t pick people up at the airport and guest rooms are nonexistent. When real estate is at a premium, very seldom do people have square footage to spare for the occasional visitor. Air mattresses and pullout sofas, as uncomfortable as they are, do offer a tolerable solution. Below are some options that offer your guests a hospitable experience for under $1,150.

Is This Affordable Modular Sofa The Answer To Modern Nomadism?
How many different places have you lived in the last five years? It’s not at all that uncommon for people to swap apartments with the changing of the calendar, or at least after a couple lease terms. Though being a modern nomad can be freeing, it does have its challenges—like schlepping your stuff to a new abode. A new startup will make at least one thing easier to pack: your sofa.

Rocking Chairs We’re Currently Crushing On
I’ll admit, I’ve been holding onto a pretty old-school idea about what it means to own a rocking chair. For me personally, the term whipped up imagery of a baby being rocked to sleep in something padded and pastel, or an older person sitting on a front porch, judging neighborhood youths from a rickety rocker. And while I’m sure these scenarios are being acted out somewhere in the world, the options we have here have completely exceeded those style expectations.

Monday on Marketplace: Deals on Unique Secondhand Sets
One of the bittersweet parts of shopping secondhand is that you rarely come across the matching counterpart to your find. I’m starting this early April roundup by scavenging the Apartment Therapy Marketplace for pairs of all kinds. Here are five listings worth your time.

Why You Should Invest in Vintage Art (On Any Budget)
Few things are more personal than art preference. Minimalists may be drawn to clean lines and graphic prints, while traditionalists will turn oil paintings into ornately framed masterpieces. But one thing that most people can probably agree on: no one wants to turn their walls into a cookie-cutter copycat of someone else’s. That’s where vintage art comes in!

How “Slow Shopping” Could Save the Brick & Mortar Store (and Destroy Your Budget)
On a recent trip to the Netherlands, I couldn’t help but notice that at each adorable home store I stopped into, I was greeted by an equally adorable espresso bar. How This Humble Washing Machine Achieved Cult Status
