Inside the Designer’s Mind: 10 Creative Questions for a Modern Bohemian Textile Artist
Taking a peek behind the scenes into how some of your favorite products come to life can be truly enlightening, and often leads to a deeper appreciation of the product itself (and the maker behind it). Here, we’re tagging along with bedding and soft goods purveyor and artist Shay Spaniola of Bunglo as she shares with us her work space and a glimpse into her creative mind.
We asked Shay some fun questions to get her creative juices flowing. Find out what she can’t get enough of:
Developing a cult-following for her dreamy bed sheets, duvets and linens, Shay’s whimsical designs are largely inspired by nature and her insatiable wanderlust. As a recent Asheville, North Carolina, transplant, many of Bunglo’s products are still made back in Austin, where she previously called home. The palettes you’ll find throughout her work are often hushed and conveyed through modern-meets-bohemian patterns.
Since 2013, Shay has been at the helm of Bunglo, a company she created after a stint at Anthropologie as part of their visual team.
The textile designer says she can’t be without her crystals or greenery in her Asheville studio.
Who wouldn’t be inspired every day surrounded by these gorgeous prints? Every design starts with a drawing by Shay, and retains the touch of her artistic hand upon transitioning into a textile.
Zipper pouches are new to her repertoire. Each one is handmade in Austin and unique in their own way.
Shay’s fresh, happy textiles can be purchased in many forms, included as napkins sets (for $20.)
