This January on Apartment Therapy is all about fresh starts — getting your home on track and in shape for a the new year ahead. For many of us, it's the perfect time (post all the holiday distractions and while the weather keeps us inside) to focus in on improvements, both big and small, that will help make our spaces into places that will nourish and support us throughout the upcoming year.
My "home" resolution for 2011 is not a complicated one: I have to decided to simply take care of anything that needs attention immediately. No more putting off the small fixes or projects - after making my first move in a decade last summer, I now know that tackling the little jobs right away is the way to go to save time and energy in the long run.
For example, to kick off this resolution in a very easy but hopefully meaningful way, my husband and I took care of an small job yesterday that we'd been putting off for no good reason. Living with 14 foot ceilings is lovely, but makes changing recessed lightbulbs a bit of a chore (the big ladder and all) so we had 5 bulbs that needed changing throughout the new apartment. A trip to Home Depot for bulbs (and yes, we bought backups to make the next changes needed even easier), getting the ladder up from the basement and voila, we are starting 2011 with a fully illuminated space. It was a super simple way to get started - one that made us feel good about our home and our commitment to being non-procrastinators.
Did you make any resolutions about your home? If so, share it below - if not, make one now and join us as we all give our homes a fresh start this month.
