Moving to a new place means figuring out how the furniture you bought to perfectly fit your former place is going to fit into your new space. My friends Joshua and Raphael faced this dilemma when they left Joshua and Raphael's Modern Salvage Love and moved into their new house.
While the old house had a separate living and dining area, the new house has long narrow room that also serves as the front entrance. Since they wanted to have an eating area, they decided to put the table that had been in their dining room at the far end of the room, where it's adjacent to the kitchen, while the living room area clusters near the front door. The back of the couch creates an illusory hallway. They were able to manage this configuration due to the relatively small scale of the pieces they'd originally chosen and they were able to keep a similar grouping of items — the green couch, the red chair, even the same coffee table — with the yellow chair subbing in for the white.
Now, having successfully fit their old furniture in their new spaces, they've decided to have some of the pieces reupholstered to update them for their new home. I'm looking forward to seeing the result and I'll share pictures here!
