Create a Digital Scrapbook Using Your Smartphone

There are more options than ever for editing your photos on your smartphone and in the last few weeks, there's been an explosion of apps allowing you to mix and match your photos into elaborate collages. My favorites offer users the ability to create framed photos, which remind me of comic book panel layouts and the oft-forgotten 90s scrap-booking trend...

Here are four free apps for iPhone and Android devices that will stitch your photos together.

iPhone apps:

Pic Collage allows you to place as many photos as you wish into the frame. Pinch and squeeze to adjust the size and angle. The basic version is free to download with extras like stickers available for $0.99.

Pic Stitch is great because once you've created your photo collage, you can export it to Instagram or any of your other photo editing apps in one easy step. Free.

Android apps:

Photo Grid offers a wide variety of frame types and sizes with background patterns and fancy frames for those who really want to add some flair to their photography. Free.

PhotoShake! is by far the most fun app out of the bunch. It's part photo editor and part cheap entertainment. The app creates random photo collages from your uploads each time you shake your phone. It's free for Android, but it's also available on the iPhone for $1.99.
