DIY a Dorm-Approved Air Conditioner

Believe it or not, college co-eds, but dorms have rules. Lots of 'em. To avoid breaking every. single. one., why not stick to the guidelines about appliances and make a do-it-yourself air conditioner. This one won't guzzle power and won't need to be installed in a window or anywhere else...

Sure it's no coincidence that as soon as August rolls around, we begin to see lots of tips and projects for those poor, unfortunate and sweaty souls who live without air conditioning.

We love these detailed DIY instructions from Hack College (by way of Lifehacker) to make your very own dorm-legal air conditioner from a floor-standing fan, copper tubing and some buckets. Or check out the instructional video below for the full 'how-to.'

The whole rig might sound dinky, but it "will cool even the hottest dorm room to a nippy 60 degrees Fahrenheit in no time." Sure it might be a bit unsightly, but so is everything else in your dorm. At least it gets the job done cheaply.
