DIY Faux Hide Rug From Flor

Last week we asked, What Do You Think About Animal Hides In Your Home? Not surprisingly, we received lots of response to this question. As I considered my own view on the matter I recalled this rather interesting hide-inspired design from Flor.

Available in a whopping 61 colors, this DIY kit comes with a trusty Stanley knife and the expectation that you'll be using a little extra elbow grease to get this project off of (or rather on to) the ground!

In typical Flor fashion waste reduction is front of mind here, with only ten cuts on 8 tiles required for the project. They also encourage creative re-use of remnants, or— if you are done being crafty—the scraps can be returned through their company recycling program.

In its finished state the 14 tile, 6' 7" x 7' 4 rug offers a sustainable alternative inspired by the traditional sinuous shape of cow hides. Though some of you may still find the reference distasteful, others will appreciate the playfulness of Flor's take on a big trend. There is also something especially nice about the lack of Zebra stripes!

I would have to see this rug in person to really measure it's design success, but it seems to be on the right track. At $286.98, (including that Stanley knife) what do you think?
