DIY Gorillapod Inspired Mini Tripod

There is no denying the neatness of the Joby Gorillapod. The small flexible tripod is perfect for so many of the shots we need to get, especially when it comes to shooting How To tutorials. The only thing we don't love about the Gorillapod is the price, so we are quite happy to see this inexpensive version we can make ourselves.

Inspired by the Joby Gorillapod, shown above, and the tutorial by Instructable user Benthekahn, Instructables user Matth3w created his own take on the flexible mini tripod.

This project uses Loc-Line modular hose and some pieces of mahogany for the base. A few woodworking tools are needed for this project, saws for shaping the base, drills for drilling the holes, and a grinder for shaping bolt heads.

We think this is a fine alternative to the great tripod from Joby and are hoping to have access to some woodworking tools so that we can make our own. This project would also make a great gift idea, just make sure the base will fit the recipient's camera (SLRs weigh a lot more than point and shoots!).

Check out the post on Instructables, for the DIY instructions.
