This TikToker DIYed a Charming “Built-In” Corner Library Using IKEA BILLY Bookcases
It’s every bookworm’s dream to upgrade from a small bookshelf to an actual library. However, aside from the space constraints, there’s also the problem of budget, as putting one up can cost thousands of dollars. Don’t worry, bibliophiles. There’s a TikTok life hack for that.
TikTok user Karissa Barker is a first-time fixer-upper who is renovating a 50-year-old house. She’s been posting videos of her work, including WIPs of the bedroom, dining room, and bathroom. But her most popular post has to be the before-and-after of her $500 DIY library.
According to Barker, she was able to build an inexpensive but beautiful reading nook by simply putting together four IKEA BILLY bookcases. In the following video, Barker says that she and her husband lined up the bookcases and extensions, then installed trim. To make the space look more elegant, they also added library light sconces and filled in the holes that come with the bookcases. And finally, they painted the bookcases the same color as the trim before filling the shelves with books, houseplants, and even Disney memorabilia for a playful touch.
A follow-up post also shows how even a tiny corner of a room can be turned into a library.
Although the entire process is no walk in the park, it did help her stay within budget. When asked how much the DIY cost, Baker said she spent $500 in materials.
