Having a charging station for all of your gadgets is a necessary solution to cable management if you have a lot of them. Finding the right charging solution isn't always easy. That's why we thought that Twistedmosaic's DIY charging station is a great idea, especially as it doubles as a laptop desk.

Take a look what he did after the jump to put this charging station together.

Twistedmosaic dug out raw materials from the trash, which is even more impressive. He partially used pieces from a wall furniture unit. The bottom shelf is a laptop desk, at a height of 29". It's perfect to use while eating breakfast or working on a project for a short while. Also, if you're running out of space, this is a good way of having extra desk real estate.

The middle shelf is used as a place to put down every day things like keys, wallet, sunglasses, etc. This keeps everything in the same space. The top shelf has a media dock and charger station, as well as an exposed outlet for battery chargers. The guts of the charging station contain an extension cord with a grounded triplex end, and an outlet mounted surge protector. Behind the bottom cable management, there is the head for the triplex outlet. This is plugged into the power strip.

Follow Twistedmosaic's step-by-step tutorial on how to put this great little DIY piece together. Naturally, there are other uses possible. For example, if a mirror is mounted in between the shelves, this could easily be used as a make-shift vanity.
