Must Love Dogs: This Apartment Building Only Accepts Pup Parents
f you’ve ever scoffed at paying a hefty pet deposit, then your future tenancy could be at a forthcoming dog owner-only apartment complex in Denmark. Basically, the next best thing to dog friendly hotels, these units will be restricted to canines and the humans who love them.
The idea for the designated doggie digs came after Danish businessman Niels Martin Viuff spoke with residents about their concerns regarding the number of dog-restricted places they routinely encounter. Viuff shared his vision for Hundehuset, or “The Dog House,” with The Danish Kennel Klub, The Local reports, and the design will be the ultimate pup’s paradise.
According to the plans, the 18-unit complex will be located in the Frederikssund Municipality. The property will be limited to dogs that weigh 100 pounds or less and will feature a garden for doggie activities. The apartments will be comprised of materials that make cleaning after a pet much easier and more durable flooring, which is a pretty nifty feature even if it doesn’t solve the dilemma of whether dogs should be allowed on the rug.
“Dogs wear things out, they have their outdoor shoes on all year round. They don’t take their shoes off in the hallway,” said Lise Lotte Christensen, behavior consultant for the kennel club.
In order to enforce the dog weight restrictions, Viuff said that the tenants’ pets will undergo a pre-screening process prior to signing a lease. “So we will be avoiding the largest breeds, so (the apartments) won’t be crowded with dogs. But if you have small dogs, more than one is fine,” he said.
Viuff doesn’t want to step on any paws, so tenants with cats will also be welcomed to Hundehuset. In the meantime, he’s exploring the idea of a cats-only complex as well.
