Organize Your Entire House with a Trip to the Dollar Store
Dollar stores can mean stylish decor, but their real worth is in the potential to organize your entire house and store stuff, without spending a ton of money. See how a trip to this budget mecca, and an even quicker hack, can help whip your home into fighting shape.
Crystal of the Weathered Fox shared her way to upgrade basic wire baskets into farmhouse-style wall organizers. This looks like a work space, but these also have endless uses: holding vegetables in the kitchen, accessories in the bedroom, or tools in the garage. You can find her whole how-to over at Remodeloholic, but it involves a little spray paint, and some nails.
There are so many uses for a cheap plastic laundry basket, especially when it’s wrapped in rope. Fall for DIY used hers for a Christmas Tree basket, but one would work for storing kids books, extra throw blankets, or dog toys in your living room.
Lindi upgraded these plastic storage bins with quick leather pulls—a great way to make an inexpensive item look a lot more luxe. The rivets give the white containers a modern industrial look.
Take it a step further with some hammered finish spray paint, and make plastic bins look like metal. Erin over at Lemons, Lavender and Laundry finished off a set with tied-on labels. Stick some of these in a kids room, a closet, or the laundry and you’ll have organized storage for days.
Carrie of Dream Green DIY used to worry about putting her still-hot hair straightener and dryer back in the drawer after she was done using them. She solved the problem with a cheap file box, mounted with Command strips, on the outside of her bathroom vanity.
Little House of Four has a series of dollar store makeovers, and she’s particularly good at nailing the industrial farmhouse look. See how she made some plastic storage look fantastic. There’s another great one here as well.
One of the best ways to keep stuff looking neat and organized is to corral everything on a tray. This elevated sink organizer from Craft + Tell keeps soap and sponges easily within reach in the kitchen, and was made from a round pan, a candlestick, and some gorilla glue.
You can see a similar idea here, on Chocolates for Breakfast, where they layered multiple tiers on top of each other to make a vertical craft and school supply organizer.
