Madeline Weinrib, known for her rugs and fabrics inspired by designs from all over the world, has created a pop-up shop at Barneys New York, on the ninth floor of their Madison Avenue flagship store. We paid a visit to the shop on a recent Friday afternoon to take in the selection of antiques, new products, and chairs upholstered in Madeline's signature fabrics.
Two chairs, one upholstered in ikat and another in a suzani-inspired fabric, flank a table created for the shop by architect Robert Barstow. In a corner sits one of my favorite pieces from the shop, a Warren Platner chair upholstered in one of Madeline's fabrics, which gives this familiar design a new freshness.
The table's black lacquer top provides a perfect backdrop for smaller wares, including teapots, bowls, and these fantastic gold-dipped wine glasses.
This wallpaper photographs beautifully, but in person it's even more lovely: the repeating design it's based on is handpainted, giving it an extra bit of movement and charm.
