On August 21 a total solar eclipse will be visible within a band across the entire United States. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon crosses between Earth and the sun, blocking out the view of the sun. June 8, 1918 — nearly a century ago — was the last time the US was witness to such phenomena. In fact, it is such rare occurrence that hotels in and around cities across the eclipse’s path, cities like Casper, Wyoming, Madras, Oregon, and Nashville, Tennessee, have long been sold out in anticipation of the event — in some cases for years.

Are you a little bit tired of listening to the sound of your tears that you’ve been left out of the festivities and are still in search of accommodations? A little bit nervous that you’ll miss out? A little bit terrified you won’t get a chance at a total eclipse? Turnaround bright eyes.

To mark this once in a lifetime event companies like Airbnb and Casper are offering eager eclipse seekers the chance at free accommodations and a total eclipse viewing experience like no other.

Airbnb is giving away the chance to see this month’s total solar eclipse in Oregon. The prize pack includes a one night stay on August 20 at a tricked out geodesic dome in Terrebonne, Oregon complete with an observation deck, telescopes, and private session with two National Geographic Explorers. That’s right, astrophysicist Dr. Jedidah Isler and science journalist Babak Tafreshi will educate guests on the events taking place in the sky. Airbnb’s package also includes a private flight on the day of the eclipse to the path of totality over the Pacific Ocean for enhanced eclipse viewing. The contest is open now through August 10.
